Can BSD system names have numbers in them?

I am bring up 4.1BSD on a VAX by modifying another (working) system.
I tried to name the system "HO95C" in the config-file, and
/etc/config accused me of all kinds of errors until I made the name
non-numerical. Is there any way to include numbers in the name, or
am I stuck naming the system "HONINEFIVEC" (for the purposes of the
#defines in the kernal).
