ANSI C Compiler Implementation

I've been asked by my boss to estimate how much work (person-years) would
be required to convert our existing C compiler (K&R plus "enum"s, structure
assignment and parameters, "void", etc.) to conform to the ANSI Standard
(once there is one). I would like some input from those of you who have
already done this (yes, I know there cannot be an ANSI conforming C compiler
until there is an official Standard). I realize that there are a lot of
variables involved, such as the modifiability of the existing compiler, the
specifics of that target machine and O.S., the experience and competence of
the implementors, etc., but some empirical figures would be greatly
appreciated.

By the way, I need to give my answer by this Friday (2/26). Reply
directly to me or post to comp.lang.c.

Thanks.
