Motorola DSP56000 --> NeXT

The NeXT workstation, to be announced any year now, has a DSP in it
which I have been lead to believe is a DSP56000. Julius Smith,
formerly of Stanford CCRMA, is at NeXT, presumably doing music stuff.

My understanding is that the DSP is used for:
	Music & sound
	high speed built in modem (for free!)
	high speed numeric computation
	your dreams (quickly)

The machine will come with a C compiler for the 56000 so you can (for
example) do compute intensive C work on the DSP.

Most of this has been pieced together from various informal sources.
I am a student normally and quite clearly respresent only my own views.
