Sure, this could be done.  It has a nasty side effect, though:

	do i = 0.0, 4.0, 2.0/3.0

will mean something different from

	x = 2.0
	y = 3.0
	do i = 0.0, 4.0, x/y

I would rather have a system whose behavior doesn't change when
I replace a value by another identical value.
