32bit C compilers for 80386 & DOS.

I was asked to post a summary of the response I received to a request for a
list of 32-bit code generating C compilers for a '386. I also asked for any
comments from people with practical experience of using such a compiler.

The names of compilers which generate 32bit code are;

Zortec,
Watcom,
Metaware High C,
Intel's own compiler (?)
and possibly the new Microsoft C.

I've received claims of speed increases from x2 to x5 over 16bit compilers.

The Zortec and Watcom compilers require the PHAR-LAP DOS extender.

Advantages of using a 32bit compiler;
No more 64k segment restrictions,
32bit arithmetic is faster,
Code size/length is reduced,
Virtual memory is easy to implement.

Further comments etc appreciated.
