Looking for info on multiple indirection/GC in C.

I would like some references to good journal articles on the subject, and/or
source code.  

I'm working on a header file and library to emulate the functionallity of the
Macintosh memory management system on any Ansi C compatible machine.  This
project is for educational/research purposes only.
