? - 'cat' doesn't produce RMS stream files

When I 'cat' from the standard input into a file, the latter is found to be
in RMS fixed-length-record format, instead of stream format with LF terminator.
Needless to say, the file is then difficult to read when I am back in VMS.  
Is there any way to train eunice to label the file correctly?
