Throughput on tb+ & 3b1

At the PC Unix Users Group meeting last week we had some discussion
about throughput with trailblazers. I'd never had problems with
it before so I thought I should actually measure it on my system.

edward: is a 3b1, 2 megs memory (no combo card), version 3 tb+,
19200 baud (but I don't remember if it has HFC enabled & etc.),
v3.51 (no updates).

daveys: is my 3b1, 3.5 megs memory (combo card), version 4 tb+,
19200 baud, HFC enabled, connected to internal port, v3.51m.

sydney: is the above mentioned 386 clone, 16 mhz, 8 megs memory,
version 3 tb+ connected with a straight ribbon cable. I don't know
if the serial hardware is able to do hardware flow control or not.

NOTE: I will not be able to investigate this any closer since
I just sold my system.

NOTE: with interactive sessions driven from kermit on daveys
I frequently loose large sections of a screen when, for instance,
running `rn'. Obviously I have a flow-control problem.

The xferstats below are from todays transmissions on my office mates
development system (a no-name 386 clone with SysV r3.2.2).

These numbers are the opposite of what Thad is screaming about.
Namely that sydney->daveys is relatively fast (876 chars/second)
and that daveys->sydney is relatively slow (334 chars/second)

But note that edward->sydney is more reasonable but for smaller
files which means that measurement errors can be large enough
to cause a problem.
