Hi Thad,  I sumbitted the Telebit solution because that was the only one
I was aware of.  I had seen the \M and ,M parts of the Devices files, but
didn't know what they were for.  Thanks for mentioning them to a relatively
new comp.sys.3b1'er.

I agree completely with you.  Apparently the difference between the Ver. 2
dialout processes and the HDB ones is that the newer ones don't open the
port with CLOCAL set anymore (unless you tell them to)...  Wonder if that
was merely an oversight, or if something else in the system needed it to
work this way...?
