I just installed AT&T's System V/386, Release 3.2 on a Compaq 386,
and have some questions. The Release Notes are dated July 1988.

(1) How do you open a pseudo-terminal ?? I found the /dev/ptmx entry
and it appears to be a clone device, so I guess that's how you open
the master. There are also 16 entries /dev/pts000 - /dev/pts015,
which I assume are the slaves. How do you know which slave to open,
after you've opened the master ? There should be a ptm(7) man page,
which of course there isn't (just like the missing spx(7) man page).
Once you've opened the master and slave, do you have to do anything
special to push a line discipline module onto the slave's stream,
or is that done for you when you open the slave ??

(2) The Korn shell didn't come with the system. On my 3b1 I got the
Korn shell with the Software Development Package, but I didn't see
it anyhwere.

(3) The C shell is brain-damaged. They didn't include the pushd and
popd functions, for example. Geez, if I had the Korn shell, I could
implement them myself.

(4) The Compaq has a Dual-Mode monitor with Compaq's Video Display
Controller Board. When the system boots it displays the "booting Unix"
message in high resolution text, but when the screen is cleared and
the amount of memory and copyright notices are displayed, it goes into
low resolution mode. Are there any fixes for this, to keep the console
in high resoultion ? (I tried all the options on the stty(1) man page
but this video adapter looks like a CGA, not an EGA.)

(5) It appears "adb" is a thing of the past. Darn, I've used adb on
*every* Unix system I've used since V7. Now they expect me to learn sdb.
