PC6300 calendar question

In fooling around with `date' the other day, I noticed that my 6300
doesn't recognize dates past 12-31-1991.  Is this an artifact of
outdated ROMs/DOS version?  I have seen occasional mentions in this
group of an upgrade, but don't know much about it or whether it's
relevant.

For the record, I have DOS 3.10 and romver 1.43.
