	OK folks, 

	Thanks for the help of several individuals I have discovered what
elementary errors I was making in the use of amd (I dropped the native
"autmomount" when it became apparent that I was going to use "amd" on
our SUNs too).  Basically, a couple of early syntax errors coupled with my
ignorance to bring me to some incorrect conclusions about how to
access filesystems which are controlled by amd.

	Please, no one else need send me advice on my problem.  I am willing
to advise any first-time amd users on the basics in order that they avoid my
problems and get going using a "totally indispensable" facility (how did I live
without it?).
