What does this mean?

We have an Iris 4D/25 that keeps on complaining:

Feb 6 01:19:23 ra-iris5 sendmail[477]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR: flock failed for db @ [/usr/lib/aliases]: No record locks available
Feb 6 01:24:24 ra-iris5 sendmail[479]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR: flock failed for db @ [/usr/lib/aliases]: No record locks available
Feb 6 01:24:25 ra-iris5 sendmail[481]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR: flock failed for db @ [/usr/lib/aliases]: No record locks available

semdmail was started with '/usr/lib/sendmail -bz -q15m'. I have
tried various combinations of setting permissions on directories, running
'newaliases', etc., with no luck.
BTW, the message (according to 'strings') comes from a routine
named 'daemon.c' in the sendamail executable . . .

HAALLP!

(P.S. Several other 4D/25s, ostensibly identical, do not have the same
problem . . .)
