/usr/sbin/mailbox

I would like to know how mailbox works. What is famd doing exactly? Why
is it using so much CPU cycles? This is a big problem when you have a
centralized /usr/mail. It can bring the server to its knees because of
intensive network traffic. Shouldn't there be a parameter to mailbox
that would allow it to poll the $MAILBOX at a lower rate?

Will SGI people care to answer? Thank you.
