Sparcstation problems

Our 25 Sparcstations arrived last friday. With each CPU the following
note was included:

	Dear SPARCstation 1 Customer,

A small number of SPARCstation 1 machines will exhibit a problem when
invoking Sun Common Lisp. The symptom of this problem is that Sun Common
Lisp will dump core when you invoke it.

The problem is due to a bug in some SPARC IU chips that do not support an
infrequently used machine instruction. This machine instruction is not
used by any other application, compiler, or software product from Sun
other than Sun Common Lisp. The problem is well understood and a fix has
been implemented. It will be corrected on al new SPARCstation 1 SPARC
IU's, but a small number are being shipped prior to the availability of
the fixed parts.

If you are a Sun Common Lisp user and are experiencing this problem,
please call 1-800-USA-4SUN and ask for Hardware Support or if located
outside of the United States, contact your local Sun service organization
or Sun Distributor to arrange to have a new SPARC IU installed free of
charge. All units shipped with this bug are being tracked and the SPARC
IU's will be upgraded during the next six months free of charge.

We don't currently intend to run Sun Common Lisp, but I definately want to
make sure that I obtain the fix for all of our CPU's with this problem.

So, does anyone know what the problem is? Does anyone have a short
assembly language program that will test for the problem? Or, does anyone
know the range of serial numbers that are effected?

					Thanks,
					    Greg
