Put-then-Get Definitions

What is the technical definition of put-then-get?  Is there any difference
in doing a put-then-get with the menu brought up by using the mouse button
and one using the L6 and L8 keys?  I'm also wondering about the difference
in using the Stuff selection on the mouse menu vs. the put-then-get
selection.

We are having the following problem.  However, it only seems to occur when
using the mouse menu and not when using the L6 and L8 keys.  I'm trying to
determine why this would be true.

Problem Description:

The following error is received when executing a put-then-get:

	Request to current holder failed: RPC: Timed out

The error occured when doing a put-then-get from a textedit window (or any
suntool window using textedit, including cmdtool and mailtool) to a
shelltool.  Text from a textedit window was highlighted with the mouse,
the cursor was moved into a shelltool window, and a put-then-get was
executed using the right mouse button.
