DBX strange abort while reading symbol tables

I got this bizzar problem that I have avoided calling Suns Fast Response
Help Line about.  The debugger (dbx) bombs when loading a program for
debugging.  The exact error is ...

dbx fft_coefs
Reading symbolic information...
dbx: internal error: expected char ';', found char ''

Has anyone else seen this bug and found any work-arounds?
