restarting processes from core

TeX does this to get preloaded format files, on lots of machines. That
might be a good place to start.  Paul Hudson

[[ Well, it does it in a very special way: TeX is written to expect such
dumping and restarting.  The techniques it uses are not applicable in the
general case.  For one, the "undumped" executable will start again at the
main entry point.  This isn't quite what the original poster had in mind.
