If you have more than two printers and/or terminals you'll get into deep
troubles, if you want to use them simultanously. Either you can use only
one terminal and one printer or only two terminals. There is no way to
connect more than two peripherals via a serial line to your workstation.
It will be much more difficult to attach a printer which interfaces only
with a parallel Centronix port. 

Therefore we developped a port expander which offers you 4 serial
interfaces (with upto 76.8Kbaud transfer rate; hardware or software
handshaking...) and 2 parallel interfaces per unit. An optional IEEE 488
bus interface allows you to connect measurement systems to your
workstation.  The port expander is available for all Sun workatstions
(3/xxx, 4/xxx and 386i).

One, two or three scsi-P port expander units will upgrade your Sun desktop
workstation to a terminal server.

The scsi-P port expander interfaces with your workstation via the SCSI bus
(Small Computer System Interface) like a disk drive or a streamer tape.
