"Yucky" addresses

It would be helpful if requests for assistance included a bang-path to the
author, as well as the domain-style address. I would have mailed this
directly, but neither I nor our mailer knows how to reliably send things to
bitnet (or any other @ address, for that matter). When replying to articles
in unmoderated groups I can usually figure something out from the article's
path, but in a moderated group like comp.sys.sun all that provides is a path
to the moderator.
Ed's Note: I'm working on writing up something that will generate uucp
style addresses for all sites, but for the moment (and it's a good thing
to know anyway), the easiest way to get to a Bitnet site, is to do this
Bitnet Address: user at foo
uucp style : uunet!foo.bitnet!user
or cunyvm!foo.bitnet!user (I think cunyvm is the
"preferred" bitnet gateway)
Note that this same trick can be used to get to other places on the
Internet, basically, you send it over to a smart mailer near you and let
it try to figure out where to send things:
Internet Address: user at foo.sub.domain
uucp style: {smart-mailer}!foo.sub.domain!user
Obviously, if you know a direct path, it's better to do that, I've heard
mixed rumors about just how happy the people at various sites (uunet in
particular) are about acting as the "central gateway for mail throughout
the known universe", but until I get a nice way of translating all these
things into uucp style addresses, these methods *will* work as a last
resort.
