Exabyte -> info for file position

Does anyone has information why exabyte does not give the correct file
position :

		% mt -f /dev/nrst1 status
		Exabyte tape drive:
		   sense key(0x0)= no sense   residual= 0   retries= 500
		   file no= 1   block no= 0


		It should say:

		..
		   file no=7	block no= 0

Any help appreciated.
