Trouble with fast-find on Sun4/260

I can't get the fast find version of find to work on our 4/260.  The
/etc/find/find.codes data base has been successfully created, but the
command

	find filename

just returns printing nothing, no matter what filename is.  We have no
problems with our Sun 3's.  We are running release 4.0.3 of SunOS.
