pswm: can't open NeWS connection

I've successfully installed OpenWindows 1.0.1 on 2 Sparcs machines: a
Sun-4/110 and a SS-1, but am having trouble with a third.  The synopsis on
that machine is:

  Machine:  Sun-4/110; color
  OS:       SunOS 4.0.3

I installed OpenWindows according to the manual in "/home/openwin", set
HOMEOPENWIN, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and set the path exactly as the manual says,
and exactly as I did with the other two machines.  However, when I try to
start it up by calling "xnews" it displays the blue OpenWindows 1.0.1
header, then complains:

  "pwsm: can't open NeWS connection"

and then hangs.

BTW, I've just uninstalled OpenWindows 1.0, which worked fine, before
installing 1.0.1.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is???
