Hanging Serial ports

I've had problems with my serial ports hanging on our Sun 3/150 running
SunOS 3.5.  When hung I can't read or write to them, any attempt to do so
results in a no such device or address.  The only thing I've found so far
that reset the serial port is rebooting the sun.  I'd like to know if
anyone out there can tell me how to force the serial ports to reset
without resetting the machine.
