Cannot connect scsi device

When is a scsi not a scsi? Why, when it is a scsi of course.

I have a scsi drive that I am trying to attach to a Sun 3/60 workstation.
The workstation currently has a 141 meg drive that is currently working
just fine. My problem is when I am trying to connect the second drive to
the scsi chain.

The machine (when I try to boot it from the monitor) cannot find the first
drive any longer. Disconnect the second drive, and then it works fine.
reconnect, and the machine can no longer talk to the first drive.

If I connect the drive to the machine after the sun has been booted, (I
can hear the groan...) the following error message gets displayed:

si0: siintr: >2 scsi reselection ids, cdr 0xff

This does not make a lot of sense to me. The second drive was set to scsi
device 1, and the first drive, 0. There was a terminating resistor on the
second drive.

Any ideas out there?
