FDDI experience solicited

I've heard rumors that the move to FDDI from Ethernet isn't always worth
the investment - at least when using a Sun FDDI board. I'm told their
data rate is only slightly better than current Ethernet. I'd guess that's
a Sun architecture issue... Also rumored is that multiple FDDI connects,
effectively interleaving communications, helps mitigate this issue. Isn't
there a faster, more cost-effective Ethernet solution?

Could someone put some numbers or references on this? I'd like to hear
some REAL thruput numbers from a Sun FDDI board owner too.
