Converting rpcgen 3.5 to 4.0.1

I am porting some rpcgen code that was written under Sun OS 3.5 (I don't
know what kind of machine) to rpcgen under Sun OS 4.0.1 (running on a Sun
3/60).

The 4.0.1 rpcgen bombs on many lines -- from typedefs to integer
return-types for function declarations.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing, and an idea of
what changes were made to rpcgen from 3.5 to 4.0.1?

Just about any suggestions would be helpful at this point.
