System: SUN 3 (/50 and /180) running SUN OSv3.5 (still!)
Problem: 1200/2400 baud rotary settings don't work
Also: Any nifty solutions to dial-in *and* dial-out on the same port?
Full description:
Getty doesn't seem to work properly using the 1200/2400 rotary entries;
that is, auto-switching 1200<-->2400 as described in the default
/etc/gettytab.
The first problem is that the port is always left at the speed selected by
the last user and never defaults to the selected item specified in
/etc/ttys. Second, although the speed can be successfully changed by a
BREAK from a 1200 baud modem (2400 -> 1200 on the port), there is no way
to get the break signal to work properly when sent from a 2400 baud modem
(1200 -> 2400 on the port).
Therefore, any 1200 baud user can access any port in either of its states,
but a 2400 baud owner has to hope the getty is already listening at 2400,
since his break signal will never flip the line to 2400.
Here are the relevant parts of /etc/gettytab. /etc/ttys was defaulted to
3 on the proper tty(s).
F|std.1200S|1200-baudS:fd#1:sp#1200:lm=:
G|std.2400S|2400-baudS:sp#2400:ht:lm=:
# Fast dialup terminals, 1200/2400 rotary (can start either way)
#
5|D1200|Fast-Dial-1200:nx=D2400:tc=1200-baudS:lm=:
3|D2400|Fast-Dial-2400:nx=D1200:tc=2400-baudS:lm=:
#
The break signal is a hardware one, can it be due to the datacards of the
terminal server? Does anyone else ever tried 1200/2400 rotary tables on
this OS? Is there a simple patch?
Also, has anyone worked a nifty way to have dial-in *and* dial-out on the
same modem line? As many know, dialing out on a port occupied by a getty
process is not feasible.
Thanks in advance,
