what 2 do if filesys corrupted

We have had numerous problems with the filesystem
on our SPARC2 in which the file system has become
corrupted and hence will no longer boot off the
default drive. Last time this happened we booted
off a system tape, but could not find a way to
correct the damaged files. We were hoping there
was a way to mount the corrupted filesystem, make
corrections to it, and then reboot off the default
disk again. But we have not found a way to mount
while using the system tape.

In other words, the crux of the problem is how do you
make changes to a corrupted filesystem which no
longer allows you to boot?

Thanks in advance. 8-)
