SUN GT vs SGI 310 GTX

I am  loking for a real time 3D graphics animation/simulation platform.
In the past I used SGI IRIS hardware and a I am currently considering
getting an SGI 310 GTX system.

But the rest of my computing environment consists of a moderate network of
SPARC stations and the corresponding support. The SPARC 2 hardware with a
GT accelerator looks promising but I am not sure how to make the
comparison since I have no experince with any graphics accelerator
hardware from SUN.

Any advise will be appreciated.
