vmstat(8) broken?

Is vmstat broken?  Two fields of significant interest to me, namely avm
and sr, are always 0.  Avm is the number of active Kbytes of virtual
memory.  Sr is the number of pages scanned per second by the clock
algorithm.  How can I get good numbers?  I've seen this behavior on both a
4/60 running SunOS 4.0.3c and a 3/280 running SunOS 4.1.1.
