Removable Pack SMD drives on 490

Has anyone had any luck running removable pack SMD drives on a Sun 4/490?

This worked fine for us on a 4/280, but when we moved it to a 4/490 (7053
controller and all) it panics the 490 when spun up and down to change
packs.
