386i/gcc

Greetings, I wonder if anyone could give some advice on this:

A friend has recently unearthed a 386i at her workplace, the machine had
been bought to run a particular package that was subsequently found
wanting, the 386i was split asunder and cast down into various dark
cupboards..

Having resurrected the machine she's now discovered that it is 100% C
compiler free. This seems like a ****** stupid idea for a Unix box, but I
suppose it was meant for apps only.. So.. how to go about getting the C
compiler?? Do you *NEED* the Sun offering or are binaries for gcc
available from somewhere? Even if the gnu binaries are about, are the
libraries, etc. still needed from Sun? What sort of cost (no-ones
terribly interested in paying out for this)

Help!
