Internet addresses (How do I get one?)

Our systems have been connected to Internet for a couple of years. I
want to break an Ethernet into two with a gateway, and I believe we need
to come up with some new numbers for the machines downstream of the
break.

Our old SysAdmin (the one who originally set us up) is no longer with us,
so I don't know what needs to be done. A friend suggested I send mail
to "postmaster at sri-nic.arpa". He didn't know who the proper user was,
but thought sri-nic was the right place. I did so last week and have
heard no reply (or bounced mail).

If anyone out there knows the correct protocol, I'd sure appreciate
hearing about it.

TIA,
