Looking for experiences on A/UX

What are your general opinions of A/UX so far? Personally I'm looking
for a BSD system (source code prefered) but I was wondering how A/UX
performed, not just in speed but in the portability and compatibility
arenas.

Now this thing is a System V machine right? So I don't suppose it
uses the fast file system. How far off the mark is it from BSD Unix?
Can I port socket code to A/UX? Can I take stuff right off the net and
expect it to compile load and run on A/UX machines with little or no mods?

Etc etc.

Reviews so far seem to be on the negative side.
