Sound support under AUX?

Although it may be foolhardy of me, I will nonetheless post this request regarding
any information concerning sound support within AUX running on the MacIIx. Is it
possible to access the Apple Sound Chip from within a "C" program? I'm beginning
to experiment with the Csound Audio Processing System and would like to develop
a "play" command which I could invoke under AUX. The "terse" entry in the AUX 
Toolbox: Macintosh Rom Interface regarding the Sound Manager leads me to believe that
this could be somewhat "problematic". Any suggestions as to how (or even if) this 
might be accomplished would be appreciated.
