gcc -g problems

I get the following error when compiling a file which has a function with
a local variable:

Assembler: /tmp/cca09131.s
aline 267 : Unbalanced Symbol Table Entries-Too Many Scope Beginnings

I don't get this error if I compile without the -g option and I don't get
this error compiling files without local variables with the -g option. I
have applied the three patches from apple.com and recompiled gcc, but the
new version still seems to have the same problem.

Can whoever has delved deeply enough into gcc to have created the patches
figure this one out, or am I the only one having this problem. I am running
A/UX 1.1
