Inits & CDevs under A/UX

I'm finally got A/UX installed and running on my Mac IIx, giving up on the
nonstandard partitioning scheme I wanted to use, but now I need to know just
what I can get away with putting into the System Folder in my MacPartition.
I notice that I get a cryptic message about not having enough standalone
program space, then it tells me I only have ~8,000,000 bytes. I'm not
running MultiFinder, but I do have a number of Inits and CDevs in the
system folder. These are things I used to get a lot of use out of under
6.0.5, and I'd still like to be able to use them, but the A/UX startup
activity seems to not like them; when I remove them, A/UX launches fine.

Can anyone out there tell me the rationale here?

I'd really like to be able to run either the Mac OS or A/UX, but so far I
can do only one or the other.

All answers are welcome
