Yes, yes. There are figures on this, by AJ Smith. Some issue of TOCS.

   Another point would be raw devices which are not buffered by
   the kernel but are cached by disk controller.

Please think again and again about this. I am not entirely sure
(let's try understatement for a change :-]) that this is a good idea
rather than a problem.
