I'm posting the following for a co-worker in the office. Responses may be
directed to me at one of the paths in my .sig or let 'r' find me.

Thanks.

I am working on a project that requires the ability to accurately detect
the current baud rate of an incoming terminal. The remote terminals will
be dialing in over modems at speeds from 300 to 9600 bps. The environment
for this project is an 80386 processor running UNIX System V release 3.2.2.

The algorithm must be able to properly detect the speed of an incoming
device based on the receipt of ONE carriage return.

We would like to design this algorithm so that it is implemented above the
hardware level. We would like to be able to use this algorithm with
asynch port boards from a variety of vendors.

Any experience, ideas, code, or bit masks that have been developed in this
area would be greatly appreciated.
