problems with SmalltalkV and Logitech Bus mouse

I am attempting to run Digitalk's SmalltalkV under Vp/ix running under
ISC 386ix 1.0.6 running on a Compaq 386/20e.
SmalltalkV runs fine, but does not "recognize" the mouse
(ie. the sprite does not move, clicking the buttons has no effect),
although both Microsoft Windows and X seem to "understand" the mouse
just fine thank you.  the mouse is a Logitech Bus mouse.

any suggestions/hints?
