This is't exactly .i386, but the question about Apple's A/UX
was mentioned.

A/UX is based on BSD 4.3, but includes most of AT&T Sys V release
2.2. A/UX has a lot of nice stuff in it including TCP/IP, Streams,
etc. Apple sys that A/UX meets the gov't FIPS specification and is
also POSIX compliant.

The price isn't too bad either. If you already have the Mac SE-30
or Mac II with PMMU chip, the list price is $995 list for the tape
or floppy distribuiton, or $695 for the CD-ROM distribuiton. The
HEPP-II pricing is $696.3 and $486.5 respectively. Additional
licenses are $399 list, $239.3, HEPP-II, though there is some
additional paperwork hoops you have to jump though to get
additional licenses. There is also something that is more or less
a madatory option, the A/UX accessory kit that is aroud $150 or so
and contains the "getting started" manuals. The part that is a bad
deal is that the full documentation, programmers ref., etc is sold
separately and costs $800 ($560 HEPP-II). Youch! Still is pretty
reasonable relaetive to SCO Xenix, though. The license is for 16
users. (It'd be real interesting to see just how slow a Mac II
would crawl with 16 users on it :-) )
