The "best editor" is a function of the application and one's preferences and experience. The best approach is to try out different editors and then ask about a *nix flavor of that program. I use vi for most of my *nix editing, and some Emacs variants for the rest. I also have a BSD source to Teco just in case I get a nostalgia attack.
