About five years ago, I requested that my name be added to the UNIX-"WIZARDS"
distribution list ( in the hopes of perhaps seeing answers to some questions
I had ) and, indeed, there *were* times when I saw something useful. About a
year after that, the content and tone of the mailing list seemed to be
overwhelmed by what I can only imagine were a horde of bubble-gummers who had
access to their da-da's home computer and the mailing list. The major 'thrust'
of the mailing list then seemed to consist solely of "flames" ( isn't that
cute ? ) directed at each other and anyone else who was handy. After a year or
so of trying to winnow through this all-pervading cloud of flatulations in
search of something useful, I requested that my name be dropped from this list.
Early this year, being the perennial ( stupid ) hopeful, I once again asked to
be added to this list. Well, children, the bubble-gummers may be a few years
older, but they seemed to have adroitly bypassed any attempts at maturity
along the way. Ordinarily, I would have hoped that that particular crop of
teen-aged cretins had by now somehow bribed their way out of Podunk U. and
gone on to be politicians, used-car salesmen, anch-or per-sons, lawyers, and
others of that ilk, but I think I've finally learned my lesson ! I am forced
( once again, and for the last time ) to conclude that the amount of useful
information managing to struggle to the surface of the list is so clotted
with the rest of the 'stuff' that one would have to be a devout masochist in
order to keep looking at it. As the old quote goes ( more or less verbatim ) :
" It appears to have been created by a horde of chimpanzees who happen to be
able to type. ". So, to those of you self-styled "wizards", flame each other
to cinders, and keep twittering on about who is a 'wizard ( yourselves, of
course ! ) and who is not, and who should be allowed to 'write' to the list
and who should not ! *PLEASE* TAKE MY NAME OFF THIS LIST !!!!!

Bye-bye, kiddies.
