buffer cache profiling

I am looking for some basic profiling data for the file system buffer cache.
Ideally, there has been a study of how the load type, buffer cache size, run
queue size, file system block size, etc. affect:

- average percentage of buffers locked (waiting for I/O)
- average percentage of dirty cache buffers (in need of flushing)
- variations in those percentages

In the likely case nobody has actually profiled such things, perhaps
there was some modeling study which makes an educated guess.  Thanks.
