CURSES and XTERM question

I have a program that uses the curses library. When it is invoked from
an xterm window, COLUMNS and LINES are set to the appropriate size of
the window (at the time of invocation.) I would like this program to
properly resize itself when it gets a SIGWINCH.

I know how to get the new window size after the signal (using
TIOCGWINSIZ), but I'd like to know how to tell the curses initscr()
function to use the new values. I've made several unsuccessful
attempts.

Any suggestions? Email if possible; I'll summarize if requested.

Note: This application is running on an RS/6000 under AIX 3.1.3003 and
aixterm, hence the crosspost to c.u.aix.
