Detecting invalid files in printer queues

Does anyone have some code which they use to filter files to be printed,
rejecting those that are invalid according to some set of criteria?

We are looking for something to filter the queues on our PC LAN, and it
seems that there is no reason why the same code should not work under
Unix too. (Could be either C code or an awk/grep type solution.) It is
just possible that it might also work under VMS as well.

There are various ways to specify what is a valid file, including pattern
matching and statistical distributions of characters, and combinations of
these.

If anyone has heard of or has available anything along these lines I'd be
glad to hear from them via email.

Thanks,
