Source of \"daemon\"

I thought the computerese 'demon'[sic] came from:
Selfridge, O[1959], Pandemonium: A Paradigm for learning. In "Symposium on the
mechanization of thought processes". London HM Stationary Office, 1959
 
Doesn't the 'dAemon' spelling  refer to Plato?
 
On the PRIMOS system there are also phantom's and zombies.
