Full screen text formatters

In august 1988 a new group of students will attend the
courses at our college. These students will do courses in
office-automation and related subjects. It is nessecary to
offer them a full screen text formatter. We have been
talking to several vendors about a W*rdstar or W*rdperfect
style formatter. None of them could satisfy our needs.

We are looking for a package that can fulfil the basic needs
    like line-filling, left-right adjusting, centering,
boldface, underlining, page control, headers and footers.
This all must be by the principle of What You See Is What
    You Get.

We are running a collection of BSD 4.2 derivated Operating
Systems on different mini's and micro's.

The rumour goes that a package as desired by us is not
available in an BSD environment. We do not believe this, so
we ask for your help. Could any one give us information
about where we could find such a package.

We are experienced users in [nt]roff and TeX, so don't flame
us about not using these beautiful tools in combination with
an adapted emacs. Such a system is not suited for our
    purpose.

Please reply by E-mail, I will summarise to the net.
