I believe the original poster asked about vi on VMS. The article I'm
following up reminds me that Gregg Wonderly at Oklahoma State did a vi
emulation in TPU for VMS.  It's more faithful to vi than the GNU "vip"
emulation is and even does multiple windows, but I found it had some
serious bugs (running under microVMS 4.4).  This TPU VI was posted to
USENET sometime in 1987.
